Andalucía is made up of 8 provinces, each named after their capital city: Seville, Granada, Huelva, Jaen, Córdoba, Málaga, Almería and Cádiz. The Andalucian landscape is extremely diverse and can be divided into 4 areas: the Sierra Morena, the Guadalquivir basin, the Sierra Nevada and the Costas. Nearly two thirds of Spain's natural parks are in Andalucía and there are over 90 protected areas in the region.

The coast of Andalucia stretches over 600km. The Atlantic and the Mediterranean sea meet at the bottom of Andalucía in the Straits of Gibraltar, just 15km from Africa. Andalucía's coastline varies from the vast beaches of the Costa de la Luz to the highly developed Costa del Sol (around Málaga), from the forgotten beaches of the Costa Tropical to the rapidly developing Costa de Almeria. Inland, the mountainous areas include the Sierra Nevada, with its ski resort and moorish "Alpujarras" region, and the Sierra Morena, a vast wilderness that separates Andalucía from the interior of Spain.
