Almeria is the easternmost of the 8 provinces making up Andalucia which are Seville, Granada, Huelva, Jaen, Córdoba, Málaga and Cádiz. Almeria is made up of vast expanses of arid land, but the landscape is extremely diverse. 1645m peaks, snow capped for months, lie only km away from the driest place in Europe, the Tabernas desert. The population is concentrated in two coastal regions: from Villaricos down to Mojacar, and in the industrial region of Almeria/El Ejido. Between them lies the extraordinarily beautiful Cabo de Gata Natural Park.
The mild weather, the beaches, golf courses, (Almeria has more new golf courses than any area in Andalucia), white villages, historical-artistic patrimony, natural environments, active sports and cultural heritage which Almería offers make it a popular tourist destination and many people choose to rent property and buy property in Almeria.

The Costa de Almeria is 249 km long, much of it undeveloped, and extends from Villaricos in the north to Adra in the south, including many popular modern resorts as well as the unspoilt natural areas of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

Mojacar Area The beaches and bays of Vera Playa, Garrucha (marina), Mojacar Playa, Macenas, Carboneras and Agua Amarga lie on the coast. Inland, and within short driving distance of the beaches, the Sierra Cabrera shelters the smaller historic towns of Mojacar Pueblo, Turre, Cortijo Grande, Los Gallardos, Bedar and Antas.

Roquetas Area Enix, Felix, Vicar and Berja sit at the foothills of the Sierra de Gador inland. A massive, intensive horticultural area occupies the vast plains of salt flats and sand dunes leading to the coast where the modern popular tourist resorts of Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, and Almerimar are hidden.

The Almanzora Valley An open valley of vines and fruit trees, with whitewashed towns overlooking it, climbs from Arboleas, Zurgena and Albox through the mining towns of Fines and Olula del Rio into the foothills of the Sierra de los Filabres where Purchena, Tijola and Seron enjoy greener scenery, towards the plains of Granada province and the town of Baza beyond.

Velez Rubio Area In the far north of Almeria province, by the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park, Velez Rubio is surrounded by sierras, olive groves and fields of cereal while Velez Blanco nestles at the foot of a rocky outcrop and is crowned by a castle.

The Alpujarras with a rural culture long disappeared from other parts of Spain the spectacular Alpujarra region makes up a large part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Almeria province. The Eastern Almeria Alpujarras differ from the Western Granada side; the landscape is more arid, but with many areas of green fertile land due to the abundance of water. The Rio Andarax river valley rises steadily from Gador and Alhama de Almeria through rapidly changing scenery, ever more lush and mountainous. 18 Alpujarreñan villages lie in the valley, each distinct, almost all beautiful: Alicun, Illar, Ragun, Canyajar, Padules, Fondon, Almocita, Beires. The river source can be found at Laujar de Andarax, where excellent wine is produced.
