Malaga the smallest of the 8 provinces making up Andalucia which are Seville, Almeria, Huelva, Jaen, Córdoba, Granada and Cádiz. The population is concentrated mainly in the metropolitan area of Malaga and throughout the coastal area and in the towns of Antequera and Ronda in the interior. Malaga and Axarquia The city, surrounded by mountains and with two rivers, the Guadalmedina and Guadalhorce, is one of the most vibrant, atmospheric and historic in Spain. It has an international airport, a sea port, and is now under 3hrs from Madrid, Seville and Granada by high speed train.
Axarquia, to the east of the province, is a landscape of rolling hills and mountains hiding whitewashed villages, such as Periana, Rio Gordo and Alcaucin, lakes and fertile valleys as well as picturesque Nerja, Velez Malaga, Frigiliana, Sayalonga and Iznate near the Costa del Sol.

Antequera The attractive city, on the edge of the 540m high plain of the Guadalhorce valley, has a well preserved centre of diverse architectural influences and a central location between Málaga, Granada, Córdoba, and Seville. Towns and villages such as Teba, Campillos, Mollina, Archidona, and Cuevas de San Marcos lie with easy reach of the Parque Natural El Torcal, the lagoons of Fuente de Piedra and El Chorro Lakes area in the Guadalhorce valley.

Ronda is a very mountainous area. The town is perched above a 130m sheer ravine (El Tajo) cut by the Guadalèvin River. The towns and villages of the Ronda mountains and the plains of Antequera combine varied architecture with striking natural surroundings. They include Algatocin, Almargen, Alpandeire, Arriate, Benadalid, Benalauria, Benaojan, Benarraba, Cañete la Real, Cartajima, Cuevas del Becerro, Cortes de la Frontera, El Burgo, Igualeja, Tolox, and Yunquera.
