Occupying 9.4% of Spain, Aragon, traversed by the River Ebro, is mountainous in the north - the spanish pyrenees - and the centre, with beautiful fertile valleys, and more arid and barren in the south. More than half the population live in the capital city Zaragoza. Aragon has a low population density with large almost deserted spaces.

Aragon is made up of 3 provinces, from north to south: Huesca: the pyrenees mountains and scenery, Teruel: rich valleys and pastures of the River Ebro, Zaragosa: capital and industrial centre, plains and mountains.

The climate is determined by altitude; alpine in the higher areas, with a humid mediterranean climate at lower levels.
