A group of over fifty islands, many of them uninhabited, 90km off the east coast of Valencia, (ferries from Denia, north of Alicante), the main four being popular tourist destinations with smooth coastlines dominated by bays, coves and capes. There are no large rivers, little rainfall and the weather is mild and sunny all year. The main attractions are the beaches, clear water, nature reserves, golf courses and the reliably sunny weather. The main cities on the Balearic islands are Palma de Majorca, Calvia, Eivissa and Manacor.

Mallorca (Majorca): The largest island of Spain and a major tourist destination. Majorca has a multitude of beaches and coves plus two mountainous regions each about 70 km in length with summits reaching 1,445m (Puig Major) and 1,340m (Puig de Massanella). The island receives over 20 million visitors a year, mostly via Son Sant Joan airport in Palma.
Menorca (Minorca): a designated biosphere reserve of rich historical, cultural and natural legacy made up of gullies, caves, wetlands made up of ponds, lagoons and marshes, dune systems, coasts and islets. Main sea and airport at Mahon.
Ibiza: Though primarily known for its party scene, large portions of the island are registered as World Heritage Sites due to their culture and biodiversity. The beaches and coves of Ibiza, such as Figueretes, Es Viver, Talamanca and Sant Antoni de Port have beautiful golden sands and a rich seabed for scuba divers, in addition to being lively and exciting party locations in the island.
Formentera: is the smallest and southernmost island 19 km long known for its many pristine beaches, nude sunbathing and peaceful atmosphere. 6km south of Ibiza but also accessable from the spanish mainland.
