One of Spain's most popular tourist destinations, the coastal region of the province of Girona stretches 214 km from Blanes in the south, 60km northeast of Barcelona and the Costa Dorada, to Portbou in the north, on the French border. In the north the Pyrenees meet the coast at Cap de Creus Natural Park (the most eastern point of Spain) where outstanding natural beauty surrounds the delightful small coastal towns of Llanca, el Port de la Selva, Cadaques, Palau-saverdera and Roses (Santa Margarida and Canyelles resorts). The Aiguamolls de l´Emporda Natural Park flanks Castello d´Empuries (Empuriabrava resort). Long sandy beaches characterise the gulf of Roses such as the 7km beach near Sant Pere Pescador, 12km north of L'Escala. The golf courses of Emporda Golf, Golf Serres de Pals and Golf playa de Pals are all close to the popular resorts of l´Estartit, Aiguafreda and Begur which also has Platja de l’Illa Roja nudist resort, Sa Punta, Sa Tuna and Sa Riera beaches.
Palafrugell is in the middle of the Costa Brava, with the archipelago of Islas Formigues highly recommended for scuba diving and the secluded beaches and picturesque resorts of Aiguablava, Fornells, Tamariu, Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell nearby.
Cheap flights to Barcelona and Girona airports help put the southern part of the Costa Brava within a few hours reach of most Europeans. Hence the lively resorts and beaches (too numerous to name here) of Palamos, Platja d´Aro(including club de Golf d´Aro), S´Agaro, Sant Pol and Sant Feliu de Guixols which has Club de Golf Costa Brava. Puntabrava, Rosamar and Canyet de Mar are relatively quiet compared to Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Blanes which are the Costa Bravas largest tourist centres by far.
