The Costa del Azahar is the name of the coast of the province of Castellon. The province of Castellon is the second most mountainous in Spain, and within a few km, the clean beaches of the coast rise to mountains inland. Travelling from north to south, Vinaròs and Benicarlo are commercial and fishing ports with full tourist services. The wide, clean beaches stretch south all the way to Peñíscola whose old town and castle sit on top of a rocky promontory surrounded by the sea, joined to the mainland by a sandy tongue of land full of hotels, restaurant, holiday rentals and tourism services. A few km south Alcossebre is joined to Alcalà de Xivert, with a modern marina, beaches and residential areas of villas and holiday apartments.
Between property in Torreblanca (with the beach resort of Torrenostra), and Oropesa del Mar, is the Natural Park of Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca . Oropesa has fine sand beaches and inlets such as La Concha and Morro de Gos as well as a modern leisure harbour.
Benicàssim, is dedicated to tourism, with fantastic beaches, mountains, and protected area of Desierto de las Palmas. Mountains almost back the beaches of Benicássim which extend southwards 14 km to join those of Castellón de la Plana. Hotels, campsites, restaurants, holiday lets and seaview properties abound.
Castellón de la Plana town has commercial and fishing harbours plus a marina and water sports are popular. Towards the south of the province, are Almazora, Burriana, Nules and Mascarell, close to L´Estany Natural Park, a wide fresh water lagoon next to the Mediterranean sea. Monofa is situated by the north of the River Belcaire whose beach areas, along with those of nearby Xilxes have been developed with holiday villas and houses. < The Costa de Azahar has historic towns and many blue flag beaches which, along with tasty Valencian cuisine, have attracted people to rent holiday accommodation and to buy property.
