Galicia, in the north west of Spain, is dominated by its proximity to the Atlantic, and has a mild but humid climate. Galician landscape is composed of green hills, cliffs and rias - fjord-like estuaries on the coast, these rías are divided into the Rías Altas, the Rías Medias, and the Rías Baixas. Most of the population live near the Rías Baixas. Inland the terrain is made up of several low mountain ranges crossed by many small rivers the most important of which are the rivers Miño and the Sil. There is a ski resort in Cabeza de Manzaneda in Ourense Province.

Galicia is divided into four provinces:
A Coruña Coruna province has three national parks: the "Fragas" of the River Eume National Park, the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park and Doninos, Esmelle and St. George's Beach, home to the The Ferrolterra Pantin Classic international world surf competition. Coruna is the vibrant capital city, but the historical and cultural capital is Santiago de Compostela.
Ourense, predominantly rural, is landlocked and surrounded by mountains on all sides which isolate the province from the more populated Galician coast. The Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Nature Reserve and O Invernadeiro Nature Reserve are in the south of Ourense
Pontevedra Much of the Rías Baixas is located here, with picturesque fishing towns. The largest city is the port of Vigo. The National Park of the Atlantic Islands and the Parque Natural del Monte Aloia are here.
Lugo has busy fishing towns, vast beaches, and and abundance of Celtic, Roman and Gothic cultural heritage.
