The Community of Madrid lies in the very centre of Spain. It has the same boundaries as the province of Madrid, and the city of Madrid is the capital of the the province, the autonomous community and the country of Spain. It is a mountainous region: most of the province is between 600m and 1000m with a temperate Continental Mediterranean climate of hot summners and cold winters. The central and southern parts of the region form part of the plateau of La Mancha and La Alcarria crossed by the rivers Henares, Jarama, the Manzanares, Alberche and Guadarrama.
