One of the Spanish autonomous communities that has grown the most in the last years, Murcia, borders Almeria in Andalucia and Alicante province in the Community of Valencia on the Mediterranean in the south east of Spain. Half of Murcia is mountainous and half flat lands and plateaux. The region enjoys a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers. The Costa Calida: of Murcia is 274 km long and includes both the Mediterraneans white sandy beaches, very clear waters, dramatic cliffs, sand dunes, lively ports and picturesque coves, and the Mar Menor , a large coastal lake of warm sea water measuring 170 km ² with an average depth of 3.5 metres - the largest natural lake of Spain separated from the sea by a 22km strip of sand, hotels, holiday properties and beach bars.

Inland are protected areas with mountains reaching 2000m, including the Sierra Espuña, Sierra de las Moreras, Sierra de la Pila, and Sierra del Carche. There are wetland reserves in the coastal plains of Murcia: Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, Humedal del Ajuaque y Rambla Salada are conservation areas with diverse bird life.

Murcia is serviced by two airports with regular direct flights to European cities: San Javier (Murcia Airport), on the north shore of the "Mar Menor", has good motorwayaccess to the resorts of Costa de Almeria and Costa Blanca. Alicante airport is also close and accessable for Murcia.
