KMLThe amazing old 'casa señorial' (a manor or upper class town house) is is habitable condition, but would benefit from renovation to make a spectacular house on no less than 5 floors, each level around 100m2! The frontage of the house is beautiful and 'imposing', accessed along one of the narrow streets of Alhama de Granada's historic 'Arab' quarters. Upon entering the house through a huge old door, an outer hallway leads, through a further, ornate set of double doors, to the inner hallway. From here there is wide staircase leading upstairs, a door leading down to the lower levels, and a double door leading to the ground floor rooms. The ground floor has two living rooms and a large kitchen (fitted, but basic). The lounge has double doors onto a balcony overlooking the spectacular gorge. There is also a bathroom on this floor. The stairway up leads to the first floor. Here one enters the 'painted room', an amazing piece of local history, given that the current owners found, under the lime whitewash, original walls decorated in the most exquisite hand-painted wall paintings, including decorative borders, a family coat of arms and wonderful pictures of grapes and olives. This rooms leads via further double doors into a series of other rooms overlooking the gorge, all in good condition with original flooring. The stairs lead to the second (top) floor, which is open to the beams and roofing. This area, around 100m2, needs renovation, and could house further rooms and bathrooms. There is a small terrace overlooking the gorge, and it is possible that permission might be granted to make more of this upper level into roof terrace. Returning to the ground floor, a door leads to stairs down to the two lower levels. These are split-levels, the first being the 'bodega' (wine cellar) and various other storage rooms, and the second, down further steps, to rooms where animals would have been kept, with access out to a small garden. In the old days, the animals would have been lead through these narrow gardens to the fields beyond the town each day. These two lower levels would make excellent extra rooms once renovated, and could even house a wine-tasting area for those entrepreneurs looking for a good business idea! An incredible house, that would make an exciting renovation project to create a large house or b&b, in a very interesting old town!
